Businesses of all types use a commercial ice machine. They are necessary for many types of businesses and knowing how they work will help you understand the importance of choosing the right machine. You see, when the right machine is not chosen the first time, there will be all kinds of problems that are not needed or wanted.
Understanding how the ice machine works will help you determine how big of a unit you need, how much ice you will need made each day, what it takes to make that amount of ice and many other things. How do these machines really work to make the ice needed for so many businesses?
It really is a simple process; water is used and then frozen. It is as simple as that, but it is also more complex. When businesses need a large amount of ice, the right type of ice machine is needed because there are 3 basic things that are needed in order to make ice in larger quantities.
The first thing that is needed is a refrigeration system. This is used for getting the water cold and keeping it cold. The second thing needed is a water supply to produce the ice and then an ice tray to collect the ice that is made.
The first step is to drive the refrigerant through a set of coils, which is what home refrigerators have done. This is what causes it to expand and condense. It also is what makes and keeps the ice trays cooled.
This process is used repeatedly, while allowing time for the water to freeze to ice. Each ice tray makes “clear ice”. This means that there is no contamination in the ice that is made. Once the ice is ready, either a rod or a piston is used to help get the ice out of the ice tray.
Some of the different ice machines have a tray that is made at an angle, which helps the ice fall out of the tray when it is ready. Other types use a rod to help push the ice out. This helps the ice stay in the classic cube shape, which is used by hotels and restaurants.
Once the ice has been put into the trays for using, a switch will send out a signal to start the entire process over again. This helps any business keep a steady flow of ice going, so there is no chance of running out of it. You definitely don’t want this to happen because it can mean big problems for your business and unhappy customers.
