Most people prefer wooden bathroom vanities but nowadays the trend is changing towards glass & metallic vanities.
You can simplify your shopping process by being clear about certain specifications. These specifications are listed below.
The Height and Width Factor
Most bathroom vanities are constructed as per a standard height, so for if you are of an average height it should not be a problem. If you are on the shorter side or the taller side you might want to consider customize the bathroom vanity to suit your height. Width of the bathroom vanity would depend upon the space available in your bathroom. If you have a modest sized bathroom you can go in for a width ranging from 25-35 inches. If you have a small sized bathroom you should consider going in for a 15-20 inch vanity.
The Countertop
If plan on buying a countertop and fixing it on top of an existing vanity cabinet, you should be careful about the material. Granite or marble countertops need special support and fixing. If your cabinet is made up of a weaker material it would not be able to sustain the weight of a marble or granite countertop.
Glass countertops go well with plastic or metallic cabinets. You can also consider using a stainless steel countertop.
The Sink Placement
The sink usually fits into the hole provided on the countertop. Depending upon the sink placement style you desire you can go in for under mounted, over mounted or protruding sinks.
Sinks come in a variety of materials. Your best bet would be to go in for ceramic sinks unless you have a penchant for marble or stainless steel.
The Mirror
Most people consider mirror as an after thought while some purchase a vanity to suit the existing mirror. Whatever be the case, you should make sure there is no contrast between the make of the mirror and the style of the bathroom vanity.
A wooden mirror frame would go well with a granite or wooden countertop, while a frameless mirror goes well with a glass countertop.
