One of the most important points which should be kept in mind is that, the use of alcoholic drinks should be avoided before driving. That is one of the major reasons of accidents. One must know that some medications can make you feel drowsy, so the label shoud be read for warnings. Do not drive If you are loosing your concentration, or feeling tired or sleepy.
Indicators should always be used so other drivers could know that you are going to turn right or left, or changing your lane.
At night, must turn on the lights of your vehicle. Also in daytime, if there is bad light, it is considered courtesy to use your headlights. Always make it a check to turn off the headlights when you turn the vehicle off. Make it a habit.
Street signs and signals should be followed. They direct you for your safety. This is a general rule to stay at a safe distance from other vehicles.
Be alert and keep watching your mirrors. You must know about all your sides. And ofcourse for a better view, keep your windows and mirrors clean. And avoid pasting large stickers on wind screen that can make problem to your vision.
Frequent use of horn should be avoided. Be in your lane and make your drive easier for others by keeping a slight slower and steady speed for increased safety. But it should not be too slow to get others into the problem. Moreover avoid quick stops.
Stay as far away from trucks and heavy vehicles as possible and avoid driving ahead of them if you can. It is a risk to take. Give trucks their room, and if they need to change the lanes let them do so.
Avoid drinking and eating while driving, that can be risky as well. If your pets are with you, make them sit in the back seat or a pet carrier.
