Do you know that the spark plugs are amongst the most vital parts of your vehicle's engine?
Yeah! Many people do not know that the old spark plugs should be changed after every 2 years or 30000 miles. It will enhance the engine's efficiency as well as the fuel economy. You can replace it yourself as it is not a difficult job. Here are some helpful tips to do this job.

Gather the tools required, like a 3/8 drive spark plug socket, extension and ratched driver, a spark plug gap gauge, and an appropriate set of new spark plugs.

For the correct spark plug gaps, see the engine specifications decal underneath the hood. It is better to use the same brand of spark plugs which were installed by the factory. Different car companies use different brands of plugs. For example, if you have a Ford car, you should use Motorcraft brand. The parts guide will be very helpful to find the correct spark plugs. Auto parts sellers also have a very good idea regarding this.

Before starting, wear a pair of gloves and make sure that the engine is cold. Don't pull all the plug cables simultaneously, in case you will mix up the plug wires or they get any damage. Instead, pull the cables and change the plugs one by one.

Usually, the area around the spark plugs gets dirty. To clean this, you can use an air compressor or something like that. Now place the spark plug socket and ratchet on the plug and turn it counterclockwise untill it gets loose enough. Now spin it by hand and take it out.

Now pick the new plug and check its gap. To set the new plug's gap, use the spark plug gap guage. By bending the outer electrode, you will achieve the right gap. Make sure that the outer electrode is inline over the inner electrode.

Now screw the new spark plug clockwise into the cylinder head. Make sure that it is going inside freely. If not, there must be some dirt on the threads of cylinder. Use of grease on the threads will be very helpful before installing the new plug. Tight the plug firmly with the help of plug wrench/socket.

Now place the correct plug cable on the head of the spark plug and push it so that it holds the spark plug firmly. Apply the same procedure for changing the other plugs.

Congratulations! You have successfully replace the spark plugs of your vehicle. I hope you will complete this job in less than an hour. Now you will have to do it after 24 months or 30000 miles.
