Probably one of the most successful TV shows of all time with multiple feature length movies being released, Star Trek has become a cult classic. Unfortunately, the past decade has seen the show lose much of its appeal as storylines became redundant. However, that has not dampened the popularity of the Star Trek costume in any way.

The original Star Trek series that launched in the 60s is still favored by most fans as the recent attempts at recreating a successful show have crashed and burned. However, it seems that the latest Star Trek movie will be breathing new life into the franchise and restore it to its former glory. This will likely mean that the Star Trek costume will regain its position as one of the most popular costumes.

The new movie takes Star Trek back to its roots, showing how the original crew of the Enterprise met. We uncover the stories of Jim Kirk, Spok, Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, Mr. Sulu and many more. However, there is an added twist that allows for a completely new spin off series or movie. The additional elements modify the time line, essentially recreating an alternate reality. This allows producers and writers to create a new show that follows the adventures of Jim Kirk and his crew without alienating fans.

One thing that will guarantee a rise in the popularity of the Star Trek costume is that the new movie is more action packed, with a full out space battle in the first fifteen seconds of the movie. In fact, this scene has more action than all the other Star Trek movies put together. This will attract a wider audience, so that Star Trek will no longer be considered a show for geeks. Especially considering that the language isn’t as techie as Star Trek: The New Generation was.

All in all, fans are extremely pleased with the new take on the Star Trek franchise and that the show will be taken to a completely new level. The cast was also well chosen and lifelong fans saluted the choice of Chris Pine to play the iconic Kirk. In fact, when Pine donned the signature gold Star Trek costume, the general reaction was that this was truly Captain James T. Kirk.

A sequel is already in the works for a tentative 2012 release and with the success of this first one, there is little doubt that they will make the date. The fact the movie attracted audiences that had always considered Star Trek too geeky is an added bonus. This will see the franchise increase in popularity as more and more people start to follow the adventures of the USS Enterprise and its crew.

This will also breathe new life into the Star Trek costume market as it will no longer be a costume work only by geeks and techies to Sci-Fi conventions. It will most likely gain quite a bit of popularity for Halloween as well. Additionally, depending on the number of movies they have in the works, this could be a great streak for costume retailers for a good number of years.
