Battery Operated LED Lights at the End of the Tunnel

LED light are showing up just about everywhere these days. Considering their efficiency, it's no surprise that many consumers and businesses have decided to replace their old conventional lights bulbs with something that is more durable and environmentally friendly than both incandescent and fluorescent light sources. Of course the ones that you have probably seen most often are battery operated LED lights.

A typical LED (light emitting diode) can replace a 75 watt bulb while consuming only 3-13 watts and yet still supply the same lighting output. Not only that but LED light bulbs have a very long life span lasting up to 50,000 hours. This means that after using it for 8 hours per day on average it would not be necessary to change the bulb for close to 10 years. This also makes portable devices much more affordable to operate since you won't need to replace their bulbs for a very long time. It is realistic to assume that most devices which use LED bulbs will be replaced long before the bulb ever burns out at all.

When it comes to battery operated LED lights there are a variety of colors, sizes, and arrangements on the market today. While you might find them being used for anything from license plate frames to belt buckles, one of the more common uses for them is flashlights. Most department stores, office suppliers, and even gas stations are likely to have a rack of LED powered flashlights somewhere on their premises. Since LED light bulbs tend to be very durable and scratch resistant it is no wonder that their use in portable devices is becoming so common. If there is one thing that consumers look for in portable devices it is the ability to take a beating and continue to operate perfectly. Battery powered LED lights deliver exactly this.

While it's been a while since Christmas, I must say that it was very interesting to see how creative our neighbors were with their LED lights last year. Everything from a Christmas tree to a rooftop was a potential location for LED decorations. It's noteworthy to mention that battery operated LED lights on your Christmas tree are also much safer than traditional Christmas tree lights. The fact that they are battery operated also gives you the benefit of placing them wherever you please without worrying about how to reach the closest outlet.

One of our friends recently installed motion sensor spotlights. I was surprised to find out they actually used battery operated LED light bulbs too. Not only is he saving money on his electrical bill but also has the added benefit of light which will still operate in the event of a power outage. I'm thinking about going to the hardware store tomorrow and get some for myself.

If you're like me you take a lot of things for granted. I had never even considered that the little flashing lights on my cell phone are actually battery operated LED lights. The only limit to where these things will end up next is an engineer’s imagination. One thing is for certain though. If it helps the environment, eliminates wires, and saves me money I am all for it.
